After two years in the virtual world Deutsche Bank Research returned to Paris to host another highly successful Global Consumer Conference. Around 700 people and including 90 companies, attended over the three days of the conference. Company and investor engagement was extremely high with more than 7,000 meeting requests. Tom Sykes, Head of European Consumer Staples and Stephen Powers, Head of US Consumer Staples, co-hosts of the event, said: “Feedback has been very positive from the companies and investment communities and we look forward to seeing everybody again in Paris in 2023 for our celebratory 20th year!” [mehr]

Specifically, we believe that although M&A will slow compared with last year, it will be more resilient than the drop so far in 2022 would suggest. With growing fears that we’re heading for stagflation, investors are increasingly asking how they should be positioning for such an environment. Unfortunately, the headline takeaways from the 1970s are pretty bad – in real terms it was a terrible decade for equities and bonds across multiple countries. Whilst this decade is young, and the high inflation has only been around for just over a year so far, we can already see similar patterns between how different assets performed in the 1970s and how they’ve been doing today. Steigende Kosten und hohe Unsicherheit haben den Liquiditätsbedarf der Unternehmen und Selbstständigen in Q1 kriegsbedingt in die Höhe getrieben. Das Rekordplus der Kredite von 2,2% zu Beginn der Corona-Pandemie wurde eingestellt (ggü. Vj.: +4,9%). Es profitierten v.a. kurzfristige Kredite; das Wachstum der Bankengruppen konvergierte. Die Kreditzinsen legten um 0,25-0,5% zu, so kräftig wie zuletzt 2011. Anleiheemissionen liefen (noch) rund, im Gegensatz zum Aktiengeschäft. Die deutsche Volkswirtschaft ist im ersten Quartal mit einer leichten BIP-Zunahme von 0,2% ggü. Vq. knapp an einer technischen Rezession vorbeigeschrammt, den Unternehmensinvestitionen (inkl. Bau) und Lageraufbau sei Dank. Der private Konsum blieb dagegen schwach, der Außenbeitrag zum Wachstum war stark negativ. Die galoppierende Inflation trübt den Ausblick deutlich: direkt über die geringere Kaufkraft, indirekt über die Zinswende der EZB und höhere Finanzierungskosten. [mehr]

Deutsche Bank Research last week hosted its annual dbAccess German Corporate Conference for the 25th time. Joining the event this year were 300 participants, 70 of them attendees from top German blue-chip companies, representing around two thirds of the DAX index. There were more than 1,000 meeting requests between corporates and investors at the conference. [mehr]
